After spending three years in television, Mykal Cushnie enrolled at the New York Film Academy where he studied Filmmaking. By 2008 he materialized his dreams of owning his very own Post-Production Company, DSE Media (Direct, Shoot, Edit). Thanks to the hard work of Mykal Cushnie and his team, who are dedicated to elevating the quality of Jamaican productions, DSE Media is now one of the leading post-production companies in Jamaica’s Film Industry.

Mykal’s consciousness of his humanitarian responsibilities drove him to work on ‘WAR Stories’ –a documentary on the life of Walter Rodney – with Filmmaker and Lawyer Clairmont Chung; and ‘Combing Through the Roots of Black Hair in Jamaica – a documentary that sheds light on the politics behind black hair in Jamaica, and discusses its effects on shaping the identities of women in the society – with Jamaican filmmaker Kimala Bennett.

However, he has only fitted one portion of the puzzle. Mykal has always envisioned himself contributing to youth development. He not only provides youth development through DSE Media, but has founded Edward Cushnie Films – the organization that will develop an institution geared towards exposing youngsters to a range of opportunities available in the Film Industry; specifically post production.
